Shinobu Karaki-san's brand-new tube amp is out - the HFSA-02 Integrated Amplifier, utilizing EL34 valves with an output of 31 Watts per channel.

This is a integrated tube amplifier composed of full-stage vacuum tubes. The input stage uses ECC83 and ECC82 tubes, while the output stage features EL34 push-pull configuration with a Lundahl output transformer and UL connection, delivering 31W + 31W of output power.

The amplifier is housed in a 22mm thick solid maple wood frame, with a 4mm solid aluminum top plate. This design ensures a perfectly rigid body structure with no deflection. The heavyweight transformer and sensitive vacuum tube components are securely supported, enabling the reproduction of substantial mid-low frequencies and delicate high frequencies.

Carefully designed and hand-crafted, this amplifier not only meets the demands of the modern digital high-resolution era but also provides ample functionality and performance for analog playback. Built to last, it is a tube amplifier that will remain unchanged for decades to come.

Features

As a full tube integrated amplifier, this model comes standard with 4 RCA inputs (optional 1 MM phono / 3 RCA line - 1 XLR balanced / 3 RCA line), a volume control with remote and is equipped with a bonnet cover. A power amplifier configuration (HFSA) is also available, featuring 1 pair of RCA and 1 pair XLR inputs, bypassing both the volume control and input selector.

The components are selected for their high quality and reliability: the resistors are from Vishay, PRP, and Japanese TAKUMAN; the film capacitors are WIMA (Germany), and the electrolytic capacitors are TDK-EPCOS. We ensure that only premium parts are used.

The output transformers come from Lundahl. The power and choke transformers are custom-made in Japan for Aurorasound, while the rectifier diode is a ROHM silicon carbide model, offering the lowest noise and highest voltage capabilities available. All terminals are carefully selected and feature thick-walled gold plating for enhanced performance.

The EL34 tubes operate with a self-biasing system, making maintenance easy. They can be replaced with other EL34 brands without requiring any bias adjustments.

Michael Lavorgna of Twittering Machines wrote (July 2026):Twittering Machines Favorite Amplifier Award

"...the HFSA-02 combines a stunning level of clarity with a refined, wonderfully textured and harmonically rich voice, a rare combination of strengths no matter the price. In my experience these qualities typically are the result of, among other things, very low self noise also evidenced by the fact that the HFSA-02 ran dead quiet..."

"...the more time I spent listening through the HFSA-02, the more confounding my level of enjoyment became because this level of reproduction rarely comes in an integrated amplifier that costs less than $10k. While I’m not saying that $10,000 is cheap or inexpensive (it’s not), what I am saying is in my experience this level of reproduction typically costs a lot more..."

"...my frame of reference for exceptional amplifier performance is relatively wide and deep and I’m here to tell you in no uncertain terms that the Aurorasound HFSA-02 ranks among my favorites of favorites, price be damned..." CLICK HERE to read the entire review
